We look forward to meeting you at your first visit, which you will find to be easy and informative. At this easy first appointment, we will check and measure the position of your teeth. We will then ask you about your concerns and talk to you about your bite. We will be able to give you simple answers to the following questions:
- Is there an issue with your bite that orthodontics can address?
- Should orthodontic treatment be put off until a later time or should it be started now?
- What treatment choices (with approximate costs) are there for your specific bad bite?
If there is an issue that can be addressed by orthodontic treatment and if it is better to delay treatment to a later age, we will recommend a review appointment in 6 to 12 months to check the development of your bite. We will continue to monitor your changing bite to be able to intercept any issues that might worsen and to advise you of the best time to start treatment in your specific instance.
If it is best to treat your bite now, we may recommend orthodontic Records (which may be able to be taken straight away) to assess your bite fully. If you have orthodontic records taken, we usually arrange a Treatment Planning appointment to discuss the treatment options that apply to your bite.
Our general treatment philosophy is to consider each patient as if we were treating family. Our preference is for the least amount of treatment that would achieve the best result for every patient, as the first choice. On the other hand, we are also very aware that each patient has their own ideas about what they would like to achieve with orthodontic treatment. With this in mind, we want to hear about why you are considering orthodontic treatment and what you would like to achieve with treatment. So, if you choose to move on to Treatment Planning, after we have examined all the information, we will discuss various personalised treatment approaches with you, for you to consider.
